Post purifcn of biologically processed effluent - using sedimentation and filtration

The sedimentation/decanting tank has a number of purified effluent drainage gutters (2) filled via overflow notches or the like (4) in one or both of their walls as the level of clear water rises in the tank (1). This so rises when passing through a mechanical filter bed (5) (i.e. filter material in a perforated walled tank) which is located physically as close as possible to the points of run off (4). Esp. the top of the filter bed (5) is a little below the overflow level (3).
