Durability is given to the freshness of cut flowers, foliage and greenery etc. by coating the petals, leaves and stems with a transparent substance, e.g. a natural gum or synthetic resin, dissolved in a volatile liquid, and capable of sealing the pores. The sealing agent may be applied by dipping and draining or by spraying by a mechanical spray or an aerosol. Wide range of substances from gums secreted in plants, starch pastes, lacquers, polyesters may be used.
