The selecting device has its needles (2) actuated (in)directly by vertically movable plungers (4) provided with a resilient projection (5) which is prestressed mechanically in front of the selection path, within which the projections are either maintained in the prestressed condition by electromagnetic forces or released in accordance with pattern requirements.
