Straightening fine steel cords at high speed - uniformly without waves nor untwisting at cutting points, and retaining max possible elasticity and tensile strength

Fine twisted steel cords for reinforcing automobile tyres and similar applications, of maximum uniformity, are straightened at high speed by passage through a line of straightening roll units acting in different planes. The cords are given a higher degree of twist than is required in the finished prod and the excess is taken out immediately before the straightening operation, whilst the cords coming from the rolls are stretched at a tension increased gradually and uniformly to a point a little below the elastic limit of the material and then rolled up.
