Extraction of antibiotic from nutrient fungus mycelium - esp. Leucoprinus gongylophora using inert solvent on suspension in acid soln. pref. Leuco-prinus gonglyophora
An antibiotic is extracted from a nutrient fungus mycelium of leaf cutting ants, esp. the Acromyrmex or Atta species, using an inert solvent, pref. =1 of ether, CH2Cl2, CHCl3, CCl4, dioxan, THF, and pref. in the presence of water, at pH 1.5-4, at 0-10 degrees C. The antibiotic is then isolated from the solvent and impurities which are less or non active. The antibiotic is pref. extracted from a leucoprinus species, pref. L-gongylophora, of the Agaricaceae family of Basidiomycetes grown on an agr culture medium to which =1 of phenylacetic acid, beta-indoylacetic acid, beta-hydroxydecanoic acid has been added to promote growth.
