Fungitoxic triforine prepns contg predominantly one stereo isomers - prepd by selective extraction of stereo-isomeric mixtures with DMF

Prepns. contg. the more sol. (in DMF) stereo-isomer (I) of N,N'-bis-/(1-formamido-2,2,2-trichloro)ethyl/-piperazine (triforine), as well as mixt. contg. is not 60% of this isomer and is not 40% of the less sol. isomer, may be prepd. by selective extraction of 45/55 mixts. of triforine prepd. in known ways from piperazine and tetrachloroethylformamide. Pref. solvents used are 90% aq. acetone and DMF. Pref. mixts. contain 75-95% of (I). The prepns have fungicidal activity against phytopathogenous fungi (I) has a higher activity than the less sol. isomer. Pref. mixts. have also higher stability upon storage.
