A liq. polymerisable compsn. for forming unsatd. polyester resins consists of (a) a polycondensate from (1) 2-methylbutane 1,3-diol, (2) terephthalic and/or isophthalic acid or their esters, and (3) an unsatd. dicarboxylic acid and (b) an ethylenically unsatd. monomer. The compsn. has low viscosity at room temp. is stable to alkali and can be hardened in presence of O2. It can be used to impregnate or coat glass fibres and can be mixed with large amts. of filler or reinforcing agent. It is transparent and has good adhesion props. and can be used for organic glass, adhesives, coatings, laminates and moulded goods. The compsn. gives off little heat during hardening; cracks and bubbles are not formed.
