Disinfectants and preservatives contain anti-microbially active concns. of o-alkoxyphenols which are easily decomposed biologically and have the formula (I): (where R1 is Me or Et; R2 is Cl, Br or 1-3C alkyl; R3 is H, Cl or Br and R4 is H or Br, provided =1 of R2, R3 and R4 is hal, and no. of atoms in molecule is =2). Br-Substd. (I) are prefd. (I) are used in aq. suspensions or emulsions, for hospitals, surgeries and homes.
