The disc floats because inflated with gas or filled with a low-density matl. Pref. it is flexible, for introduction through the tank manhole, and to adapt to the conical shape of the tank floor. The middle of the surface floating on the beer is constructed so that it seals the outlet gas-tightly when the tank empties. Specif. O2 absorption by the beer after filtration, deleterious to quality, is maintained well below the critical level of 1.0 mg/l at little cost. The disc may be of rubber, and may have a plastics foam inlay.
