Upholstered article, esp. for automobiles e.g. seats, roof linings and arm supports, is made by providing an external layer of flemeable fabric with an impermable backing, and forming a body of flexible, elastic foam behind the backing. One surface of the fabric is free to undergo sideways displacement relative to the body of foam material, this surface extending over at least a part of the entire surface of the fabric.
