As shown liquid, solid arrow lines, entering through inlet header 37 is uniformly distributed by means of fin sections 44, 45 and 47 and thereafter passed through a slot aperture 35 in a partition plate 25 to admix, in the adjacent passage 26, with gas, dashed arrow lines which after entry through inlet header 18, has been uniformly distributed by means of fin sections 31, 32 and 33. The mixture then passes upwardly through passage 26 and heat exchanges with a second fluid passing downwardly through passage 27. Fin sections 41, 42 are provided in the passage 27 for uniformly distributing the second fluid which flows from inlet header 11 to outlet header 12. Other partition arrangements are disclosed (see Figs. 12-23) to prevent mixing of the gas and liquid prior to each being uniformly distributed.
