Aqs. dispersions contain a coating material consisting of 95-50 wt.% of an acrylic co-polymer (A) at least partly neutralised and 5-50 % of an amine-aldehyde condensation product. (A) consists of 1-25 % of hydroxy-alkyl ester of an alpha, beta-ethylenic unsatd carboxylic acid (C), 1-20% of an unsat. carboxylic acid (D) and at least one other co-polymerisable ethylenic unsat. monomer (E), and has a no-av. mol wt =6000 and a wt. av. mol. wt =15000. Suitable materials are (C) hydroxyalkyl esters, with up to 5C alkyl, of acrylic or methacrylic acid, (D) =6C unsat acids e.g. acrylic or methacrylic acids (E) alkyl acrylates and methacrylates, styrene, etc. and (B) etherified mfr.
