Thick laminates are formed from a set of commercial thin laminated sheets, thin enough to be bent, =2 of which have a smooth decorative face; each sheet being made from 1 layer of a support, pref. paper, impregnated with a plastic material, completely hardened. The sides of the sheets, except the decorative sides, are pumiced. The sheets are piled in a mould after placing between each sheet a layer of a compatible adhesive or an adhesive film. The mould is closed, under a max. pressure of 10 kg/cm2. The adhesive may be thermohardening resin, such as urea-, melamine-, phenol-formaldehyde, polyurethane or epoxide, or a thermoplastic such as PVC, latex or polychloroprene. The panels obtd. cost less than thick panels made in one operation; they are used for radiography tables, stretchers or desk tops.
