By the use of a double arm lifter mounting and a switch-prong guide system, the cam piece is not operational during the phase when the gripper is inserted into the loom to collect the weft from a fixed bobbin supply, or from a mid-loom hand-over point. The number of clamp operating movements is halved compared with conventional fixed cam piece systems, which doubles clamp component life.
