Levelling agents for uniform dyeing of polyacrylonitrile

Anionically modified synthetic fibres and esp. polyacrylonitrile fibres, butr also polyesters and polyamides are dyed uniform shades with cationic dyestuffs in the presence of levelling agents comprising 0.3-4% with respect to the wt % of material to be dyed, of an anionic surfactant in which the hydrophobic gp is an organo-silicon gp, providing that, with respect to the dyestuff used, the no of equivalents of anionic surfactant does not fall below the no of equivalents of dyestuffs cations. The hydrophobic gp is advantageously a methylpolysiloxanyl gp.
