Drop forgings stress corrector - with tapered plunger sliding split upper and lower dies

To correct internal stresses in drop forgings, the workpieces are clamped and stretched between an upper die and a lower die but with the centre left free. Both dies are split and slide outwards, their stretching movement is achieved by driving a tapered puch between the facing tapered surface of the upper and lower die, each of which consists of two slideable symmetrical parts. The back pressure can be absorbed by two hydraulic cylinders in the upper die which are joined to hydraulic accumulators.
