1384173 Hauling ANDERSON MAYOR Ltd 17 May 1973 [31 May 1972] 25464/72 Heading B8B [Also in Division F2] In a mineral mining machine mechanical haulage mechanism in which the drive from a motor passes via a forward and reverse and variable ratio speed gear-box (Fig. 1, not shown) and through a clutch 4, epicyclic gears, a brake 35 and a set of gears 6 to a haulage chain driving sprocket (not shown) the sun gear 12 of the epicyclic gears is the reaction gear and is on a shaft 11 (Fig. 3) held against rotation by an anchor arm 13 having spring means 15 to resiliently hold it, rotation of the arm 15 due to the transmitted torque causing pivoting of a lever 17 (about its end 18) to move an axially adjustable rod 20 towards a latch 21 (Fig. 2). Release of latch 21 by rod 20 causes movement of an arm 30 by spring 33 to disengage clutch 4 (held engaged by the arm 30) and also operates a valve 34 to apply the brake 35 and brake the output. The valve 34 may also disengage a clutch (2) provided in the drive before the variable ratio gear-box (3) (Fig. 1, not shown), in which case the clutch 4 may be omitted. Adjustment of rod 20 alters the maximum permitted torque, and an indicator 24 may be provided to indicate the torque being transmitted. A damper 16 prevents oscillation of spring 15.
