The P. contg. requesting agent or o-phosphoric acid and the hydroxylated aromatic anti-oxidant are each present in amt. of 0.01-3% by total wt. of the reactants. Formation of coloured by-products is inhibited. A prefd. requesting agent is ethane-1-hydroxy-1 1-diphosphonic acid and a prefd. anti-oxidant is 2 6-di-tert butyl-4-methyl phenol.
