Reader device for tape or card punch - includes punch needles selected by selector bars driven by associated magnetic devices

A series of pref. horizontal reader bars are arranged pref. between two frames carrying banks of magnetic devices (e.g. permanent or electromagets) two reader bars carrying armatures at one end and being connected to associated return springs at the other end, and the frames are pref. moved together so that the actuators adhere to respective electromagnetic devices and then apart to move the reader bars laterally against the action of the return springs. Selected magnetic devices are then actuated according to a programme to release the armatures so that selected reader bars move in reverse direction under the action of the return springs whereby pins on certain ones of a series of pref. vertical control bars drop into recesses in the upper edges of the reader bars which have returned, so that these control bars are lower than the remaining control bars. The control bars are operably connected to punch needles and the position of the control bars determines whether the associated punch needle is operated to punch a hole in a card or tape of e.g. a jacquard mechanism. Low powder magnetic devices can be used.
