Metal drum for prodn. of annular bodies such as tyres, has an open hollow crown, a tubular support hub, a number of arms, which are distributed regularly on the periphery of the crown, and extend parallel to the centre line of the hub, segments supported radially by an inflatable membrane, within the crown, a fluid operated system for radially displacing the segments relative to the crown, and a source of operating fluid for axially and radially displacing supports which are placed symmetrically on opposite sides of the crown, and support the ends of the body being treated. Displacement of the body supports simultaneously over similar distances on both sides of the crown, thus providing good centering of the body during treatment even when the initial positioning was inaccurate. Stretching of the body easily and accurately controlled. Low degree of wear through friction.
