Reproducible dyeing of fibre materials - from medium contg chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon, beta hydroxy butyraldehyde and soln. promoter

Amine and amide contg-, polyacrylonitrile- and cellulosic fibre materials are dyed using commercial dyes in a medium comprising chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (I) to which beta-hydroxybutyraldehyde (II) and a soln promoter (III) have been added. No water is required and compared with water contg. systems, colour-fastness and reproducibility are improved and dyeing times are no longer. Pref. dyeing is at (I) b.pt and 0.01-40 wt.% (based on (I)) of (II) and (III) are used. Typically (I) is C2Cl4 and (III) is a 1-3C alcohol or surfactant.
