Mixt. of coal and asphalt (residue from petroleum refining) in ratio 3:1, is heated and crushed after it has solidified. When treated with amoniacal compsns., either natural or chemical, it produces remarkable volumes of vegetation, i.e. grain or fruit, when used with natural fertilisers.
