Vinyl-asbestos or asphalt floor tiles are produced by (a) calendering a base mixt. to form a continuous sheet leaving at 110-180 degrees F and 80-200 ft/min. (b) coating the running sheet with a liq compsn. contg. an org. cpd. with at least photopolymerisable gps, e.g. glyceryl diacrylate maleate. the coating having a thickness of 0.001-0.005 inch. (c) immediately exposing to uv light with wavelength in the 2500-4000 A region, in a non-oxidising atm at 110-220, esp. 130-180 degrees F, and a sufficient intensity to initiate curing within an exposure time of 0.2-15 secs, and (d) cutting into tiles at 120 esp. 130 degrees F. Gives tiles with a hard, clean bonded coating.
