In one example metal salts which will produce differing colours are mixed in the electrolyte, and the colour deposited selected by choosing a certain voltage. The shade of colour is altered by varying the duration of electrolysis. The electrolyte is acidiferous, a variety of possible acids or acid salts being listed as possible inclusions.
