The emergency lighting equipment comprises a dry battery or accumulator and an over-current relay through which the current flows which supplies the bulb for normal operation, and the lamp is particularly intended for office or workship use. The relay controls one or more emergency bulbs, and the equipment is opereated by the switch supplying the bulb for normal use. The over-current relay can be in the form of a bimetal strip actuating the contacts for the supply to the emergency bulb. On switching on the lamp for normal use, matters can be arranged so that the emergency lamp is briefly lit, to show the state of this lamp and the batteries.
