Based for food products is prepared by (a) cold mixing vegetable or animal foods, precleaned, ground and precooked with seasoning flavours, binders and fats and ground to colloidal particle size, or (b) precooking in water and grinding to colloidal particles an animal food (pref. fish which remains after filleting) with seasoning and flavours and preservatives, forming to shape and quick freezing to -35 degrees C and dividing into portions for addition to animal or vegetable products e.g. fruit, chopped meat etc. The base is used in semi-prepared form for e.g. soups and sauces, and is time saving. The process minimises heat treatment to avoid vitamin loss. Product has food value equivalent to fresh foods and is prepared with minimum water addition.
