1515745 Cooling cement clinker FIVESCAIL BABCOCK 25 July 1975 [29 July 1974] 31252/75 Heading F4B Cement clinker discharged from the kiln is air cooled, and part of the thus heated air is fed partly to the kiln and partly to a boiler, air from the boiler together with air from one part of the cooler being passed to another part of the cooler. As shown in Fig. 1 a grate cooler partitioned at 16 into compartments 10, 12 and 14 with plenum chambers 23 below the grate, has a line 19 removing from the compartment 10 about half the quantity of air passing through the furnace and returning it via a cyclone 22, the boiler 20 and a fan 26 to one of the chambers 23. Similar lines remove air from the compartments 12, 14, passing it through cyclones 34, 36 and fans 24, 28 also to others of the chambers 23. Fans 30, 32 feed cold ambient air to further ones of the chambers 23. Compensating removal of hot air is made from the boiler. In a modification, Fig. 2, with a rotary cooler 40 a line from a point 50 in the furnace head 42 removes about twice the quantity of air passing to the furnace, which air is returned via a cyclone 54, the boiler 52, a fan 56 and a tube 58 to about the middle length of the cooler. A valve controlled branch 60 enables air to be bled off, this being replaced by ambient air entering the hood 46. Another rotary unit, Fig. 3 (not shown), returns air to an annular casing (62) around grids (66) on the cooler, which grids pass fine material into the easing (62) and thence into a line (70) leading to the cooler hood (46SP1/SP) and supplied with ambient carrier air by a fan (72). Specification 1,503,943 is referred to.
