Pharmaceutical compositions in conventional forms for oral, rectal, parenteral or topical administration and having anti-bacterial activity and growth promoting activity comprise an above novel compound in admixture with carriers and/or diluents or fodder other than a solvent of molecular weight less than 200 or a surface active ingredient. Methods of use of the above compounds and compositions as antibacterial agents and growth promoters is also claimed.
