The container is particularly for petrol, having a pouring opening in the top closed by a cap, and a spout which can be fitted to the opening. The spout is accommodated when not in use in a chamber (5) above the level of the fluid in the container (1) and freely open to the inside of the latter. There is an opening (9), closed by a cap (10) to allow insertion of the spout in the chamber, situated at the end of the chamber (8) furthest from the pouring opening. The container can be of truncated pyramidal section, with the pouring opening (3) in the top of the sidewall, the chamber consisting of a pipe (6) closed at one end and extending above the top of the container, the closed end being closest to the sidewall, where the pouring opening is situated, and the open end away from it. The pipe is connected to the container at the closed end by a further pipe (7).
