The bearing is particularly intended for a ships propeller shaft (1) and is of the type having stationary thrust pads (8) circumferentially spaced between the shaft collar (2) and the bearing housing (3). The thrust pads are arranged on oth sides of the collar and are held in position by the retaining disc (6). The disc (6) may be arranged in a concentric groove (10) in the housing which has a cut-away section for the purpose of assembly. The disc may be secured in the housing by a retaining element (12) and may consist of two halves. The radial recesses (7) of the discs are preferably so dimensioned that the thrust pads are retained at an accurate radial distance to the centre of the shaft.
