Cpds. of formula (I):- (where R1 is H or -COR5; R5 is opt. halo-substd. 2-20C alkyl or X is halo, NO2, 1-4C alkyl, or 1-4C alkoxy; n is 0-5; each X may be same or different when n =2; R2 is 2-5C alkenyl (opt. halo-substd.), 3-9C branched alkyl, 10-20C opt. branched alkyl, 2-5C alkynyl or 3-5C cycloalkyl; and R3 and R4 are H or 1-4C alkyl), are borad-spectrum fungicides, with strong activity against a wide range of pathogenic plant fungi; they may be applied to the soil or leaves. (I) are also antimicrobials with strong activity against Gram-negative and -positive and can be used for preserving wood, bamboo, fibre and paper prods., cosmetics, paints, synthetic resins etc., and for preventing slime formation in paper mills. (I) have very low warm-blood toxicity, cause no skin irritation in normal concns. and are almost) colourless.
