The terminal board and the measuring instrument e.g. for monitoring the current on a conductor rail, are each provided with fixed contacts, which are paired together to define various measuring ranges, and which are brought into contact when the instrument is inserted in the junction unit. The contacts are geometrically arranged, so that for a specific measuring range appropriate instrument is automatically connected correctly to the terminal board. Pref. the junction unit has a front aperture into which the measuring instrument fits.
