Compounds of the formula R1-C 3BOND C-R2 (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen, unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted alkenyl, unsubstituted or substituted alkynyl, unsubstituted or substituted polyalkenyl, or unsubstituted or substituted polyalkynyl, and R2 is unsubstituted or substituted alkenyl, unsubstituted or substituted alkynyl, unsubstituted polyalkenyl or unsubstituted or substituted polyalkynyl, ARE PRODUCED BY REACTING A COMPOUND OF THE FORMULA R1-C 3BOND CH (II) wherein R1 is as above defined in a mixture comprising a copper(I) halide or copper(I) cyanide, a bicyclic amidine base and a catalytic amount of an antioxidant or mixture of antioxidants, in an organic solvent or mixture of solvents, at a temperature of from -40 DEG C to +100 DEG C, with a compound of the formula X-R2 (III) wherein X is halogen, and R2 is as above defined.
