1386957 Carpet sweepers PRESTIGE GROUP Ltd 29 Nov 1972 [1 Dec 1971] 55792/71 Heading A4F A carpet sweeper having a main brush 2, 3 rotatable about a substantially horizontal axis is provided with an auxiliary brush, comprising a stock 88 and circumferential extending rows of tufts 9, 10, and drive means for rotating it about an axis oblique to a horizontal plane and extending between horizontally spaced apart ends of the stock 88. As illustrated the auxiliary brush is driven from the main brush via a universal joint comprising a plastics extension 83 fitted on to a square sectioned end 82 of the main brush spindle 81 and into a cylindrical bore 89 of the brush stock 88. An end 86 of the extension 83 fits into a square sectioned bore portion in the brush stock 88 and has a projecting spindle 91 located in a recess 92 in a boss 93 on the sweeper casing 1. In an alternative embodiment the auxiliary brush stock 8, Fig. 1 (not shown) has a coaxial bore into which the main brush spindle extends, and the stock and spindle are coupled together by a disc member. An abutment may be provided to maintain the stock at a constant angle relative to the spindle. Other embodiments having differently constructed auxiliary brush stocks are described.
