CATALYST AND PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF POLYETHYLENES HAVING A NARROW MOLECULAR-WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION

A catalyst for the production of polyethylene and modified polyethylene having a narrow molecular weight distribution comprising the reaction product of (A) a reaction product of one mol of trialkyl aluminum having from two to eight carbon atoms in each of the alkyls with from one to two mols of a polysiloxane having a viscosity of from 5 to 100 cSt (25 DEG C) and monomer units having the formula WHERE R is alkyl having one to six carbon atoms, cycloalkyl or aryl and (B) a compound of the formulae TiX4- n(OR')n, VOX3- n(OR')n and VX4-n(OR')n WHERE X is a halogen, R' is alkyl having one to eight carbon atoms or cycloalkyl and n has a value between 0.1 and 2, or mixtures of said compounds, as well as a method of producing polyethylene and modified polyethylene having a narrow molecular weight distribution utilizing said reaction product catalyst.
