The suction assisted mower is intended for roadsides, trench banks etc. and incorporates a universal boom mounting for the cutter together with a suction nozzle forming part of the casing and thus capable of swivelling relative to the boom to adapt to grass slopes etc, as in 547051. The nozzle has a secondary air aperture to sustain a steady suction flow throughout cutting operations. The secondary air opening, in the larger outside diameter region of the pipe issuing in the mower casing, is covered on the inside by a sheet plate which reaches obliquely into the air flow on the air discharge side.
