Dyeing wool textiles with anionic dye using auxiliary - with alkylene-oxy- and/or-amino-groupings for level results

Wool textiles are dyed with anionic dyes, using an auxiliary (I) with dye affinity of formula R-(OCxH2x)n-(NR1-CxH2x)m-R2 or its quaternised deriv. (in which R is a satd. or unsatd. aliphatic, aralkyl, aromatic or heterocyclic gp. with 1-22C or an acyl gp. of formula R.CO derived from this; the R1 gps. independently are H, low mol., opt. substd. alkyl and R2 OH or NH2, opt. substd.; x=2 or 3; n=O or 1-100; m=O or 1-10; if n=O, m =1 and if m=O, n=1). (I) and a strong acid are applied to the textile first and it is then dyed with anionic reactive dyes. Process ensures level dyeing with dyes, esp. those with 2 sulpho gps., which normally dye the tips of the wool hairs more strongly than the roots.
