The insert has a pocket (1) with two side flaps (3) and a closure flap (5) which (in the hatched regions of the diagram) are provided partly or wholly with an adhesive layer. The outer longitudinal border of the closure flap is connected in one piece to the extension via a parting line (T), a retaining strip (10) and a rear fold (R). The extension comprises a stitching or binding flap (9) having e.g. a larger surface area than the pocket and can be printed on and can serve as an additional sheet of text etc. In order to facilitate separation of the pocket, the partition line can be weakened, preferably perforated. In alternative designs several pockets can be incorporated in a single insert which can be partly or wholly manufactured from transparent material. The design of the insert enables it to be mechanically bound into the publication and give a pleasing finished appearance.
