Inflatable mattress for lifting bedridden patients - has profiled end for accommodating bedpan

A thin inflatable mattress is placed on the ordinary mattress under the patient for lifting purposes. The inflatable mattress 12 on the ordinary mattress 10 is inflated to lift the patient comfortably to a suitable level in order to make use of the bedpan 16 which is accommodated in the profiled opening 14 in one end of the inflatable bed. The thickness of the inflatable mattress in the inflated state is at least equal to the depth of the bedpan. The inflatable mattress covers more than half of the ordinary mattress. The patient is comfortably lifted and lowered by compressed air which is supplied and blown out through a suitable valve.
