The input shaft (1) is coupled to a coupling housing (3) with a keyway (2) and the housing carries a disc (5) which is secured by bolts (4) passing through bosses. Friction pads (6, 7) are mounted on the internal surfaces of the housing and disc. Rings (62, 72) are located between the friction packs and are free to slide axially on an output sleeve (8). The rings are spring loaded (10, 11) axially into contact with the friction pads. A number of small centrifugal masses (13) are carried on the spring disc periphery. In operation input shaft rotation is transmitted to the output (5) without slipping of the friction pads up to the rated speed. Once the rated speed is reached slipping occurs to ensure a constant out put speed. The output sleeve is mounted on a double ball bearing (12).
