Docking winches for dry dock - are mounted on travelling gantry and on dock sides with combined control

The ship's bows are positioned at the entrance of the dry dock and cables are linked between the bows and two winches at each end of a travelling gantry which spans the dock, and runs along the edges of the dock. Extra winches are mounted on the edges of the dock to connect to the sides of the ship. All the winches are fitted with revolution counters and are linked to a central control through which all the winches can be controlled together. This enables the ship to be dragged into the dock with accurate positioning. Also relatively short lengths of cable are pulled out of each winch at the beginning of the operation making the manual effort easier.
