Equipment for changing suspended idler sets of a belt conveyor plant during running of the conveyor belt includes a maintenance carriage movably mounted on longitudinal side members of the conveyor structure. The carriage has downwards projecting sides on which rests a trough positioned below and across the top belt of the conveyor and carrying a new idler set. Each side of the carriage is fitted with a lifting device by which the replaced idler set is lifted from suspension hooks and lowered below the trough. Subsequently the new idler set in the trough is lifted by the lifting devices and placed with its ends on the existing suspension hooks. The position of the trough is adjustable by sliding it along horizontal tubular members of the downwards projecting sides of the maintenance carriage.
