The support moves from a rest position, for placement of the cassette, into an operative position within the recorder, with the magnetic tape passing round two vertical guides, which are supported by respective rails at either side of the cassette support. These position the tape so that it can be passed around the rotary recording or playback head, and retracted after positioning the tape by a spring mechanism.
