Double cell irradiation facility - with upper irradiating and lower source storage cells

A double cell irradiation facility comprising an upper irradiating chamber and a lower double wall water filled chamber for storage and interchange of irradiating sources. Removable stepped shields in the roof and side of the upper chamber provide access for personnel and materials and a roof mounted mono-rail facilitates transport and positioning of objects to be irradiated. A removable lattice plate separates the upper and lower chambers and safeguards personnel and materials from falling into the water filled chamber. Irradiation sources and extension rods are assembled at the bottom of the lower chamber on to a carrier plate in a required configuration. The carriers are interchangeable according to requirements. The plate and sources are cable winched up the chamber to bring the sources into alignment with the objects to be irradiated in the upper chamber.
