In a woodchip scattering machine partic, for use in the prodn. of a web consisting of a mixt. of coarse to very fine chips, to be compression moulded to chipboard, and comprising in known manner, an endless ejector belt driven round at least two guide elements for a chip feed metered by weight or vol. a stripper roll mounted adjacently to one guide element and a separator roll installed below this guide element and stripper roll, (i) one guide element is constructed as a wedge-shaped body with a rounded guide edge at its tip (ii) the straight line connecting the centre of the rounded tip of the guide element and the axis of the stripper roll makes as angle with the horizontal 45 degrees (iii) the axis of the separator roll lies on a perpendicular passing between the top of the guide element and the axis of the stripper roll and (iv) the surface of the separator roll is roughened to such an extent that it pref. collects only the fine and very fine chips which can be centrifuged off in a curve of fall corresp. to their mass, while the coarse chips are only partly collected and have curves of fall largely independent of their mass.
