The closing device is for swing- and/or flap side- and tail beards on lorries and their trailers with a tail beard spigot arranged on the top corner of the beard parallel to its pivot axis where this spigot is held in a counter bearing by a pivot piece which can be moved and locked by a operating arm in the form of a two-armed lever, whose closure side end directly engages on the pivot piece supported on one end and outside the connecting line between the spigot and the operating arm support, in the closed position in or so outside the connecting line that the radial force from the spigot acts as a pure pressure force or as a closing force on the closure side end of the operating lever.
