Warp knitting machine has a spring hook needle bar arranged between a front and a back pile point bar, with at least two guide needle bars stroking twice for each cycle of the needle bar. The tips of the pile points are set deeper than the hooks of the knitting needles and the loop thread guide bars deeper than that for the ground fabric threads. The stroke of the guide bars alternates short and long as the loops are laid round the knitting needles first and then round the pile points.
