Surface textured metal casting prodn. - using paper-covered heat-gasifiable pattern embedded in moulding sand

Surface of hard foam pattern, pref. of 'Styropor' (RTM), which can be gasified at a temp. below melting temp. of metal, is covered, on surface to be textured, with a foil of strongly satinised, pref. transparent, long-fibred paper which is swelled through moisture of moulding sand and forms folds in mould surface corresp. to desired texture. Pattern is cut by pref. using a knife heated to melting temp. of foam, to bond paper to cutting edges. De-moulded metal casting is cleaned, chemically burnished or patinised and polished until metal is visibly exposed in raised design zones.
