Bauxite processing red mud disposal - after prodn of solid bulk matl by cement admixt

The red mud derived in the prodn. of Al2O3 from bauxite is rendered solid by mixing with quick setting cement whilst still wet and making into shapes which have as small a surface area as possible for a given vol., which parts are hardened in air or water. The matl. is pref. tabletted into cylindrical pellets or square blocks and is handled as a bulk matl. after setting. The system permits disposal of red sludge with min. pollution hazard.
