The brazing alloy is composed of a refractory metal, pref. an intermetallic cpd. of the refractory metal chosen from elements of the Gp IV or VI, with =1 of Al, Ge and Si. The element of low melting point is present in amts. 30 wt%. PRef. the intermetallic cpd. is composed of Digermanide of Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta or Mo. Brazing is effected by applying the alloy in the form of powder to the surfaces to be joined, heating for 5-10 m in. until the alloy is m olten, applying a pressure of 1-10 bar at a temp. of over 100 degrees C above the solidus temp., holding for 1-5 min, and cooling to room temp.
